TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently a student teacher, I have spent time in kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th grade classes. My daughter is in kindergarten and I have created a lot of these projects for her class. For more references please review my e-portfolio at http://mpereaseportfolio.weebly.com

MY TEACHING STYLE

1. Essentialist, where a core education is taught (Miller, 2012, p. 16). In the United States this is mandated by current legislation. However, how it is taught is up to negotiation. In Utah, we gauge our students learning on standardized tests and mandated text is also a key to Essentialism Education.

2. Social Reconstructionist, where as an educator, I can focus on having students actively participate in problem-solving and include critical thinking as a part of their learning activities. I also identify with this philosophy because I feel that all students, regardless of culture, race, class, et cetera deserve an equal education. With Social Reconstructionism I will have the opportunity to help students to construct knowledge in an effort to create a just and equitable society (Miller, 2012, p. 31).

3. Constructivist, I will be able to encourage learning by discovery, hands-on experiences, experience and observation, collaboration, projects, and tasks (Wikipedia contributors, 2014). This involves the students in the learning practices.Also Constructivism provides me the opportunity to teach the students via real-life scenarios, applying their education to future needs.
