Something I use at the beginning of the year so that students can get to know me in a fun way! I recommend writing the answers the questions on the worksheet on sentence strips and taping them around the room. Students search for the answers and

I have used the Bucket Filler management system (based on the book How Full Is Your Bucket? by Tom Rath) in my classroom to create a more community-like feel and the students really love it. The product contains 2 pages for using as labels to cover

Great for using as a class a bulletin board. Students write down ideas of ways to be kind and write on the template. I recommend checking them over to try and eliminate duplicates and then having them rewrite it on a construction paper heart.

This is an activity I use for Open House at the beginning of the year (or conferences) to get parents to attend. I tell the students the week prior that there will be an estimation jar at the event with prizes (often just tickets or pencils, etc.)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught second grade for five years and I am teaching first grade this year! I have had experience teaching kindergarten and first grade summer school for two years. Previously, I student taught in third and fourth grade. I was a substitute teacher in a K-6 school for one month after graduating college before getting my first full time position.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Above all, I believe in using positive reinforcement and laughter to promote a welcoming and warm classroom environment. Students, especially young students, cannot learn if they are not comfortable in their own classroom. I am a firm believer in giving students "turn and talk" opportunities as often as possible. Why call on just one student when you can have everyone sharing with someone?! Though not the best singer in the world, I enjoy music and try to incorporate song and dance into learning experiences to engage students. Luckily my technology skills are better than my singing voice. I find that with today's generation, students NEED to have access to technology in the classroom, as it is both engaging and a life skill. I also like to write short poems or use rhymes to serve as a mnemonic device for teaching skills that students have a hard time remembering.
