I have taught within many public, private and independent schools and across all grade levels. Most recently I have just taught a Stage 3, Year 6 class of 30 boys, all of whom have varying academic needs.
I believe that my primary role as an educator is to prepare my students in becoming knowledgeable, creative and independent citizens, so that they may lead productive and meaningful lives. I believe that in order to teach a child holistically a teacher must look at the whole child, including their social, emotional, cultural and behavioural status and use this information to support their academic studies within school. My pedagogical beliefs stem from a mixture of the Social-Cultural Theory and Multiple Intelligences. In that knowledge is first obtained through our social experiences with more knowledgeable others, then reinforced and developed upon on individual platforms. Secondly, I believe that no two students learn curricular content in the same way. Therefore in my own teaching practice, I continually implement multiple learning pathways and strive to learn about new strategies and technological features from my peers. All so that I may support my students learning to the best of my ability. I strive to understand and further support my students learning by linking their home and school life together through establishing positive relationships with their parents and carers, so that information, concerns, procedures and my individual approach to classroom learning may be discussed. I set high yet realistic expectations of both my students and myself, so that quality teaching and learning may be challenged, well informed and reflected upon, so the skills and knowledge of all persons continues to improve.
