This my ninnth year of teaching. I teach Algebra I-II, Geometry and Trig. In the past I've also taught an ACT Test Prep course, Algebra III and a middle school exploratory course. Before teaching I was also a substitute teacher. I have taught all nine years at the same school.
My lifetime motto is 'be less helpful' aka 'talk less'. My motto for this year has been 'less handouts'. I currently love and use Interactive Notebooks. I try to balance between discovery and direct instruction. My main focus has been to try more activities that have students active in the classroom as well as creating activities that are self-checking by nature. I also do a modified version of standards based grading. Since January I've really been focusing on VRG or visible random grouping. I am also a big fan of whiteboarding and group work.
Masters of Science Curriculum & Instruction - Teacher Leadership
I graduated from a very small high school and went on to a small community college. From there I transferred to a large university. Previously I had been a top student but when I began university math classes I struggled. That experience helped shape the way that I want to reach and teach my students and also the reason why I am teaching at my alma mater high school.
I am also the high school cheerleading coach and Student Council sponsor. I am obsessed with organizing, color coordinating, forms, and cute fonts.
