TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I spent the last five years abroad teaching children English as a second language. During that time I also created an entire ESL curriculum for children aged 4-7. This curriculum is used by three language centers in Hanoi Vietnam and it is used widely throughout the public schools in Hanoi. Furthermore, I am a third generation teacher. I basically grew up in my mother's pre-school and kindergarten classrooms. My mother, who is soon to retire after 30+ years in Kindergarten and Pre-School, and I have recently begun working together to create resources like those in my store. Her expertise is well beyond mine and I am so grateful for her guidance and ideas.

MY TEACHING STYLE

As an ESL teacher I realized immediately that the entire goal of an ESL classroom is to get students to produce language. That seems like a very basic idea, but it was something I observed other ESL teachers not emphasizing. Therefore, I also realized that children must have something to talk about and write about. This absolutely must be something that they want to talk about and write about. Learning a second language at any age is very challenging, so coaxing English usage out of my students meant, above all else, creating a comfortable classroom environment and providing extremely engaging and simple materials. These ideas continue to inform the materials I create now.
