I have taught fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. Prior to that, I developed experiential learning programs for adults. I had a hard time finding appropriate materials for middle-school-aged ELs, EEs, and reluctant readers. Most materials at their reading level have cute little animals on them, which embarrassed my older kids. So I've spent a lot of time developing age-appropriate materials for struggling readers.
Lots of small-group work and interaction, differentiation, and project work.
