TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Currently I am teaching Language Arts for grades 7th and 8th. I have taught a total of five years. During the fives I have taught grades that range from 5th to 8th. The schools are been from one extreme to the other in terms of diversity. For example, the first year I taught I was in a inner city school setting. Since then I have taught mostly rural to county settings.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My degrees are primarily in Middle School education with an emphasis on Language Arts and Social Studies. I am always seeking outside training to keep up with the every changing educational trends. In addition, I am an avid reader of articles that relate to education and teaching methods. A typical day in my classroom is described below. Keep in mind I am blessed to have 90 minutes with my students. Bell Ringer-Every day students know to come in and write their sentence for the week. They have notes that explain and provide details as to what they are to do with the sentence on that particular day. Afterwards we go over the sentence as a class. This allows me to be able to teach grammar every day. When there is a new concept presented I will allow additional time to do a mini lesson. Reading/Writing- Each reading unit that my student and I embark will always have a writing component. This may be in the form of comprehension question from their reading and/or writing an essay. At the end of the lesson for the day students are given a Checks for Understanding. This allows me to see if they mastered the skill that we were covering for that day.
