I have taught students with special needs since 2008. I was a paraprofessional from 2004-2007 with students with severe disabilities. A camp assistant for children and adults with a variety of disabilities in 2003 as well as a client supervisor in groups homes for adults with disabilities from 2001-2003.
I teach as much as I can through a multi-sensory approach. I like to split students up in smaller groups and let them explore things on thier own before making corrections.
I have been part of the CSC and Teacher Leadership program in school. I have been co-department chair for the special education classroom, as well as awarded grants for a Unified Sports program in school that increases the inclusion and sense of community for all students.
Colorado State University (2003) Bachelor of Science from the Applied Human Sciences college in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in becoming a Child Life Specialist University of Colorado Denver Campus (2008) Masters degree in Special education in addition to receiving my Teaching Licence as a Special Education Generalist.
While working as a special education teacher I have been a Teacher Leader, sat on the CSC for 3 years, been co-department chair for the special education department, recently assisted in writing curriculum for new teachers and mentors in the district I work, and taught inclusion classes in the math department.
