TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been working in education for 16 years, and I absolutely love it! I have over 10 years of classroom experience (primarily as a 4th grade teacher, but I have also taught Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten). In addition to classroom experience, I have 13 years experience as an educational consultant. I have created and delivered professional development trainings for districts, schools, and specific grade-levels. I have also presented at the following professional conferences: International Reading Association (IRA) Conference, Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT) Conference, Early Literacy and Reading Recovery Conference, Texas State Reading Association (TSRA) Conference, Michigan Reading Association (MRA) Conference, National Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts (NCTE) Conference, Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Conference, and Eric Jensen’s Learning Brain Expo and Teaching Conference.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a very "it's all about the learner" kind of teacher. I LOVE creating innovative, brain-based lessons and activities that will engage the learner and take the learner to new levels. I will do whatever it takes to ensure that every student in my classroom is successful throughout the learning process. I want my students to love learning and become self-motivated learners.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Recipient of the PTA Friend of Children Award (Grapevine Elementary-2010); Blue Ribbon Judge for the Dallas Stars & KERA/PBS "Stick with Writing" Annual Contest (Dallas, TX-2004); Recipient of the National PTA Honorary Life Member Award (Larson Elementary-1999); Recipient of the Teacher of the Month Award (Larson Elementary-Oct. 1998 & Dec. 1997); Recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award (Roquemore Elementary-1997); Elementary Level Recipient of the Arlington Will Award & Recognize Excellence "AWARE" Award (Arlington ISD-1997)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a MS Ed. in Brain-based Learning & Teaching (NOVA Southeastern University; Winter Park, FL) and a BS in Elementary Education specializing in Early Childhood Education (Texas Woman's University; Denton, TX). I enjoy attending professional conferences, workshops and collaboration meetings so that I can continually analyze and sharpen my thinking strategies, actions and beliefs in an effort to improve my effectiveness as an educator.
