22 Years in the Western Middle School Mildly Cognitively Impaired Classroom
"Will I need this when I am 21?" I'd like every student to be able to answer YES! to this question. Independence and employability, that's the focus! I try to always remember to put the "Fun" In "Functional!"
I once won third place in a watermelon eating contest!
I've been blessed with many great teachers. Dr. Sandra McClennen at Eastern Michigan University has inspired me to fill my students with information they can use!
I spent 7 years as a professional freelance photographer (& 4 on a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree). Towards the end of that time I felt "pulled' to work with kids who just didn't fit in. Finally, I went back to school, got certified and have worked with Mildly Cognitively Impaired students ever since. 22 years and I feel like I'm building steam. I love my students and the program that we have built in Parma, MI. Monday Maintenance is a big part of that. I'm proud of the routines, traditions and celebrations we have incorporated into the weekly ritual. I look forward to sharing what we do with other, like-minded educators!
