TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Elizabeth Luff, has been a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher, and administrator. As managing director of ZeroMoving Dance Company, she produced the company's first New York season. Working with Carunchio & Associates, Luff researched arts education programs in the 5-county area and helped raise over a $1 million dollars for college access programs for Philadelphia Schools Collaborative. Currently, Luff operates Moving Studios which teaches creative dance on-site at preschools, after-school programs and in the community. She is a specialty discipline instructor for the PQAS program of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Luff has taught teacher workshops for local, state and national Head Start programs and 2015 American Montessori Society Conference. Luff is presently developing written materials for parents and teachers to infuse more movement into children's studies and developing a children’s music cd with local artists.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I dance. I think when I dance. I teach dancing and thinking. First, I try to do no harm. Second, I try to keep joy alive. My classes are inclusive; I have most of the children moving most of the time. There are opportunities to freely create and chances to solve problems. Mostly we express ourselves through movement. In response to clients, Luff has recently incorporated music with her dance curriculum and led a training called "Singing and Dancing Together" at the 2015 ECE Summit. “I try to expand my teaching in innovative ways. For over 20 years I have taught a variety of movement disciplines to ages 18 months to senior adults. I have taught in every type of setting and developed a curriculum called The Dancing Year which incorporates movement throughout the preschool curriculum. It uses music, dance, games, books, scarves, hoops, fabric, and more to explore dance concepts (shape, space, time, energy) which are transferable to academic subjects. It expands on themes like animals, environments, holidays, and different cultures using movement,” explains Luff. Her professional experience has strengthened her personal belief in the importance of movement to physical and mental health. Luff is certified as Trauma Competent Family Professional by the Institute for Family Professionals. “This training reinforced much of what I have learned on the job, and taught me about the neuroscience of learning, memory, the mind/body connection and strategies of working with trauma-impacted populations, including using movement and music to help children deal with a variety of issues.It is my goal to use my experience teaching children and knowledge of the body to help more people discover movement as a pathway to personal development, physical and mental strength, and joy.”
