Mrs. Mac: I have been teaching in the Clark County School District for 10 years. I started the PreK program at Vegas Verdes Elementary and am currently teaching second grade. Mr. Mac: I was a TFA corps. member in 2003. I have been teaching for almost 10 years now. I have taught 6th grade, 8th grade, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. I have taught life science, biology, physical science, and environmental science. I am currently teaching at the Mojave turnaround school
Mrs. Mac: I teach with a lot of love and a lot of heart. I beleive that everything should be as visual as possible. My specialty is an interactive style of learning math. Mr. Mac: I believe in the whole experience. Students learn through participating in immersive high energy simulations. The motivation piece is built into their learning. I also give my students a very visual and holistic picture of biology. For example, we visualize proteins as PacMan and learn the "video game of the cell."
What's in an award. I have never applied for awards and I never will. . . I count my rewards as my students shining eyes as they learn to truly enjoy school.
Ferndale High School, WA: I graduated from Ferndale High School. I had some amazing science teachers that I try to emulate. Thank you Mr. Wiley! University of Washington: I started as a Peer Health Educator, I was a Resident Advisor, president of Student Health Advisory, I was a College Bound mentor, and I taught a micro lab course as a senior. My emphasis was in microbiology, biochemistry, and genetics. I intended on going to medical school but joined Teach For America instead as a service project. I was hooked on teaching and never looked back. University of Nevada Las Vegas: I have my masters in curriculum and instruction. Center for Teaching Excellence: I received a certificate and endorsement in Teaching as Leadership, TESL, and GATE
On April 9th 2010 my wife and I had a baby girl. She was born with a rare genetic disorder known as CHARGE syndrome. As a biology teacher with a background in genetics I now have a mission: to make sure that my students understand biology at such a level so that they may one day become the doctors that helped save and continue to save my daughter's life each and every day.
