TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been working in the Tacoma School District going on 8 years. Have taught 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade each for 3 years. (Doubled up 6th and 8th grade one school year) Spent my first five years teaching at a middle school identified with SIG (School Improvement Grant) which then moved into RAD (Rapid Action District) My current school (for 3 years) is also a SIG identified school. Multiple years worth of training for CHAMPS, GLAD Training, NorthWest Math Conference workshops, MidSchoolMath 2017 attendee, RULER trained, as well as a National Board Candidate (waiting on the official results!)

MY TEACHING STYLE

I prefer to construct lessons based on concepts student need to learn, and build student understanding from a conceptual to procedural fluency. Anyone can talk at a student, but to have THEM talk at you about the math is my goal. Using real world application of the mathematics ( budgeting your finances, identifying deals at the grocery store, participating in local contests and calculating the best way to win). Anytime a student can discuss their thinking and rationale about why THEIR answer is right is a win in my book!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT
