TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Elementary Physical Education Teacher - Howard County Public Schools, MD: 2010 - Present Elementary Physical Education Teacher - Grundy Center Community Schools, IA: 2009 - 2010

MY TEACHING STYLE

My gymnasium is about maximizing activity time for every class and getting students to become "thinking movers" in order to facilitate the brain-body connection. I use a lot of guided and self discovery type lessons to get students to take ownership of their own learning as they are moving. I am all about integrating technology into the gymnasium as a way to expose students to new and exciting activities and tools that will help them improve their motor skills and overall fitness levels. My overall goal for my elementary students is to teach them the concepts and skills necessary to build the foundation on which a healthy, active lifestyle can be built.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Maryland Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance - Technology Committee Representative: 2011 - Present Maryland Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance - Undergraduate Award Winner - 2008 Salisbury University - Physical Education Major of the Year Award Winner - 2009

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received a Bachelor's degree in physical education from Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD in 2009. I received a Master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA with a concentration in physical education teaching with technology (integrating and utilizing heart rate monitors, activity monitors, fitness assessment software and tablets/ipads for assessments within my teaching on a daily basis). I currently in my 7th year of teaching, with my last 6 years being at Waverly Elementary School in Ellicott City, MD.
