TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching in Sullivan County for three years. I have taught 4th and 5th grade math. During my internship at Milligan College, I taught 3rd grade and 6th grade science.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Some of my teaching strategies that I implement in my classroom are being a demonstrator and facilitator. The demonstrator is more of a coaching style which means that I give opportunities to incorporate a variety of formats including lectures, presentations and whole group/small group instruction. For the facilitator, this is more of activity prone which means that I train the students to ask lots of questions and help them develop skills to find solutions and answers to solve real world mathematical problems. I am very big on self-learning and helping students develop critical thinking skills and strategies to find the solution to problems in my class.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I just recently received "Teacher of the Year" by my colleagues at my school. My students TCAP scores from the 2014-2015 school year were 90% or higher for proficient/advanced. I have done after school tutoring and private tutoring on the side. I have had numerous teachers from our county want to come in and see how I do my stations and what tools I use during my instruction.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my Master's degree from Milligan College in spring of 2013 in K-6 Elementary Education.

I am a former college pitcher at Milligan College. I am real big into sports and I love to use it during my instruction. My goal is to make sure each one of my students shows growth at the end of the year. I hope that my power points may be able to help you during instruction time or even whole/small group like they have done for me.
