TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My name is Alex Everett. I graduated from the University of Brighton in the summer of 2013 with a first-class honours degree in Primary Education after four years of study. Over the course of my time at University I have undertaken three teaching practices totaling thirty six weeks and an additional four-week complementary placement at a leading children’s bereavement charity based in London. I believe that these experiences have taught me how to develop and sustain positive relationships with children, colleagues and the wider community whilst teaching me the importance of flexibility and an open mind in my working life. I believe myself to be diligent, punctual and good-humoured. My subject specialism is English. I have a real passion for children’s literature and teaching children the mechanics of English through multimodal, visual and kinesthetic approaches. In my second year of teaching, I have been appointed as the English Co-ordinator. This is a fantastic opportunity which has enabled me to share and develop good practice. I have been responsible for writing a phonics and spelling scheme, a handwriting scheme and a handwriting policy to support the introduction of cursive handwriting to our pupils. In addition, I have also collaborated with the University of Brighton and taken part in a research project focusing on the role of educational drama in the English classroom. This year I have also taken on the role of French Specialist Teacher. It is my role to plan, teach and assess French across six classes ranging from Reception to Year 2.
