After 10 years as a Singer/Dancer/Actor on Broadway in NYC, I eventually put my College Eduction in Theater and Dance together with two decades of practical experience and joined "the family business" of Teaching! I helped to start and develop a Theater and Dance Program in a very urban and low income public high school in New Jersey. After several years of "grass roots movement," the program is now thriving offering 3 different class-day theater and dance classes as elective Arts credits! Wooohooo! (smile) (If you want to see more of that program, go to YouTube or Vimeo and search: APHSTheaterAndDance for some fun videos!) Now I've accepted a position teaching Theater and Technical Theater at a large high school in FANTASTIC Las Vegas, Nevada! With a huge student body at this school (more than 3000 students), we are working to re-build a theater department that thrived many years ago! Viva-Las Vegas!
I love my students, and have VERY high expectations of them. It's a delicate yet absolutely essential balance. I like my projects to be fun, creative, challenging, and most importantly, they must show the students the connection that skills like performing arts skills, public speaking skills, the ability to project and clarify their voices, their ability to enhance a verbal presentation with carefully chosen gestures, and other techniques that we think of as only "theatrical"......will actually help them to succeed in ANY career they choose! It's true there may be "No Business Like Show Business," but ask any working adult..."ALL Business is Show Business!"
