Ive been teaching grades 4 through eight, and grades 4-12 for 17 years now. Ive worked at the public school level, and taught for a local community college as an adjunct off-campus art appreciation instructor. Ive also taught preschool in a summerschool setting with basic visual art lessons.
My standards are common core based, along with the Kansas State Department of Education Visual Art Standards for grades K-12. I teach very direct, with a great deal of differentiated instruction. My overall style provides a great deal of differentiated instruction within my classes, with a structure to the lesson, and then choice offered within a project to provide for individual expression. My style is very student centered.
Ive had my own work in many juried art shows, and competitions over the years. I was Teacher of the Year in 2002 for our district in southwest Kansas, had many students place, and two national winners in the Scholastic Art Competition, and many local art donations that I do for a local charity motorcycle club I participate in. Ive served as a veteran teacher in our district on our site committees, leadership teams, and various art related endeavours and clubs with my classes.
I graduated from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Master of Fine Arts in art education and printmaking, with a minor in Drawing. Ive taught at Hugoton, Kansas for the past 17 years after graduating at Fort Hays.
In my free time I still do a lot of my own art, ride motorcycles, and enjoy long trips. I enjoy also fixing things or repairing anything broken, being a handyman around my place when I have time. Theres always an ongoing project or something to do.
