I began teaching before Man landed on the Moon and have taught students from Grade 2 to Grade 10 - specializing in Remedial Reading, English and Math.
Traditional. My work with students who have been failing has taught me how important it is to keep checking understanding, to quickly identify those who "don't get it" and to adjust my teaching accordingly.
A comment written by a student on a farewell card I received from my Grade 4 class: "Thankyou for teaching us the things we haven't learnt." I think I know what she meant....!
I have an Arts Degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia; an Approved Certificate of Teacher Training from the Victorian Teachers' College, Melbourne; a Diploma in the Education of Handicapped Children from Manchester University, England.
I have taught in both Australia and England. In addition to classroom teaching, I have been involved in the teaching of Remedial Reading for more than thirty years. Over that time, I have developed my own phonics-based reading intervention program, "Everyone Can Read", which is now used in more than a hundred schools in England and Wales.
