I have been teaching First grade for 7 years now, I think. It feels like fore forever. I absolutely love doing what I do and it never feels like work, I guess that is why I get in trouble by my husband (he just gives me a look) for being on the internet to long. My only complain is that I go to sleep thinking about how I make a student master a concept. Normally I can get to that almost asleep spot every night and then some good idea pops in my head. I've learned because of this to keep a note pad by my bed.
I love Whole Brain teaching strategies and getting the kids out of their seats. We all know first graders have a hard time staying there so why make them. :)
I was awarded Rookie Teacher of the Year at my previous school Walnut Hill. This was a great honor to me cause it is such a large school with many deserving teachers. There were over 100 teachers to choose from. On top of that my principal was also my former principal at that same school when I was a student and his opinion has always meant the world to me.
I started my college carrier at Southern University in Shreveport, LA. I had no idea what I wanted to be an I let others tell me that teaching wasn't what I needed to do with my life. So I pursued a career in Accounting and Business Management. Then with that I continued my Education at Louisiana State University(teaching was always in the back of my mind.) I received my Bachelors of Science in Marketing and with that I received my job as a Teachers Aide and I decided to go for it finally. I started at Louisiana TECH (Go Bulldogs!!!) I love that school and the professors more than life itself. They taught me so much and made my creativity grow and grow(Shout out to Dr. Manning) Now I have my Masters of Art in Teaching.
I LOVE FIRST GRADE!!!
