I taught first grade for one year; third grade for three years; second grade for four years; and Kindergarten for one year for a total of nine years. I'm an early childhood education major. I have my bachelor's degree in behavior science. I have my master's degree in curriculum and instruction. I'm certified to teach pre-k thru fourth grade. My classroom theme has always been black & white with yellow accents and busy bees.
I have a laid back personality, so my teaching style is very hands-on. I love to teach using music, games, and movement activities. It's rare to find my classroom silent. I love technology and use it tremendously! I use a document camera, overhead projector, iPads, laptops, power points, Classroom Performance Systems (CPS), Go Noodle brain breaks, Class Dojo; and online quizzes like Kahoot and Brain Pop Jr. My students have a lot of fun learning and we're usually all exhausted by the end of the fast paced days.
I was voted Teacher of the Year by a radio station. I have won two grants: one for science for my grade level, and one from from our local library for book buddy bags. I've also won a district wide fitness challenge by doing the most brain breaks and logging it. The prize was an iPad mini and $250 worth of outside toys.
I grew up in San Antonio, TX. I completed 8th grade there. I moved to Nashville, TN and attended high school in Nashville. I went to Murfreesboro, TN for college at MTSU where I received my bachelor's and master's degrees.
I have been happily married for 12 years! We have a six-year-old son. We are one and done. We also have a chocolate lab mix named Mocha that we rescued from an animal shelter when she was a newborn puppy. Mocha is 7 (in human years). I've been a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc since Spring '05 and my line number is 21.
