TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am entering my 4th year of teaching. I have taught primarily 12th grade English with a few courses of World Mythology along the way.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style focuses on high expectations and student engagement. I prefer to give students material to grapple with on their own with my guidance, rather than spoon-feed them material. I like to challenge my students to discover the learning topics through their experiences with the coursework. I always tell my students that I expect things to be challengings, but not impossible. My favorite moments are seeing students shock and awe when they get something without my intervention, especially something that they couldn't do when they first walked in my door. I challenge students to look at all viewpoints, and with that, I do many assignments that involve students interacting with each other. My classroom is never quiet, but it is engaged!
