I am currently an English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. I have taught third, fourth, and sixth grade students. I am proud to teach in Caddo Parish Schools (Shreveport, Louisiana) at Title I schools. My teaching experience also includes being a Museum Educator, Adjunct Instructor of Fine Arts, and community-based youth program coordinator.
My love of learning and teaching is rooted in my family’s strong educational values. Many people in my family are teachers, including my mother, aunts, and cousins. While growing up, I was beautifully encouraged by many educators, including neighbors, church members, youth leaders, and my classroom teachers. These early experiences helped to cultivate my strong commitment to positive character, professional excellence, community service, and creative expression. In this light, I describe myself as an "old school" teacher with a global world view. I aim to help my students cultivate positive virtues, academic intelligence, and critical thinking skills that will prepare them to achieve their goals and make a positive difference in the lives of other people.
How much better does it get!?! I am blessed and grateful to work at awesome school with amazing leaders, teachers, and students. A special shining moment this 2014-2015 school year was my being selected the 2016 Teacher of the Year Award at my school. In 2008-2009, I was chosen Teacher of the Week. Receiving honors are a lovely affirmation of my daily, dedicated work as a teacher. However, my greatest professional reward is to witness my students learning, growing, and loving school more and more everyday!
