I have been teaching since January of 2001. I graduated from Central Michigan University in December on 2000 and was hired mid-year at an elementary school to teach 1st grade. For half a year, I rotated into several teachers' rooms to co-teach. The following year, I had my own classroom and a group of 2nd grade students. I taught both 1st and second grades for a total of 5 1/2 years in Michigan. I have since moved out of state and have taught for an additional 4 years in first grade. While attending college, I also taught summer art classes to kids ranging in age from kindergarten through eighth grade. I am taking a year off from teaching to stay at home with my son and baby-to-be (arriving in Feb. 2011) and to sell some teacher stuff that I've created or we haven't used lately (My hubby is a teacher, too.):)
I teach with a balance of high expectations and fun. I love to incorporate art projects when I can. My teaching incorporates various experiences for the children including the following: small groups, whole group lessons, independent practice, games, meaningful workbook type practice, manipulatives to aid learning, art projects, music, and daily routines.
Graduated cum laude from CMU in December of 2000, various honor societies and honors in college
I have always loved to learn. Teaching runs in my family. My mom, dad, and husband are teachers. My family owns a one-room schoolhouse that my dad attended for a few years before when he was young. I am a lifelong learner, as are all teachers. I am currently working on my Master's Degree in Library Science.
