I am in the midst of my sixth year of teaching high school English. I have a passion for my subject matter and my students' success. I love writing creative lessons that engage students, challenge them, and hold them accountable for their own learning, and I'm happy to have an opportunity to share them with you!
Over the years have amassed a ridiculously high number of people whom I refer to as "my kids." I like for my classroom to be a place of discovery where even my reluctant learners (of which I encounter more than a few) get excited about learning and develop confidence in their own abilities. I am a learning facilitator who likes to model success for students and then scaffold them toward the completion of their own high-quality work and higher-order thinking.
My greatest honor comes in watching the growth of my students, hearing their thanks, and hearing from their subsequent teachers how well prepared they were for the next grade level.
I am a career switcher. I hold a BFA in design and worked in that field in corporate settings for many years before "retiring" to my second career as a teacher of English/Language Arts. My experiences as a professional and as a creative person have given me first-hand experience in using the skills necessary for success beyond the classroom and a passion for making sure my kids (my students) are all prepared for their successes ahead.
I'm a wife, a mother, a reader, a raiser of reading children, a member of a family with learning differences, a raging introvert, an advice giver, a recovering perfectionist, and a smiler!
