My 8 years of teaching experience has varied from teaching math to grades 7-10, Visual Art to grades K-12, and teaching English abroad. I recently finished my Master's with a dual endorsement in ELD and SPED, so these strategies have been incorporated in my own classroom and during my practicum. My experience outside the classroom includes leading various language immersion and outdoor education camps, guiding backpacking trips, and working with special needs populations in a preschool and travel camp setting.
As you can see from my experience, I am passionate about a variety of different content areas. I am a true believer in the connection between them all and in finding ways to make these connections in the classroom. I believe in building a very strong rapport with my students and incorporating instruction and activities that foster this. My personal quote is by George Bernard Shaw (there wasn't enough space for me to include it with the quote) and reflects my belief in lifelong learning and the role I play in a student's education.
My first class of seventh graders in my current district are now seniors in the high school where I teach. I have had numerous students come and tell me that I was their favorite teacher, including one boy who included me in his life map presentation for an AVID class. He reported that I completely changed his perspective on his ability to do math, and that this increased confidence has made a big difference in his experience as a student. Compliments like these are the best award a teacher can receive!
