I have taught Preschool, Kindergarten and First Grade for 10 years in Maryland.
It is my responsibility, as an early childhood educator to create a learning environment where all children can learn and feel successful. Each child is a unique individual, with different strengths, needs and learning styles. It is important for learning experiences to be multi-faceted, so that students with various learning styles can gain knowledge. I believe in incorporating a topic or theme throughout several disciplines and areas of study, to make learning holistic. As a mother of three young children, I see each child as a “whole-learner”, and understand that each child comes into a classroom with his or her own strengths, abilities and needs.
I was nominated for Outstanding Teacher of the Year in Carroll County Public Schools in Maryland in 2013.
I graduated with a BA in Early Childhood Education from Towson University in Towson, Maryland. I received my Masters of Education in Reading Instruction from Towson University as well.
I enjoy being a member of my community of Mt. Airy, Maryland. I teach at our community school where my three boys have attended. I enjoy organizing a Secret Pal's program at my school for our staff. I help to organize a Pajama Drive in the winter at my school, which partners with Scholastic Books to provide new pajamas and books to children in need. I teach Sunday School at my church- Calvary UM Church in Mt. Airy, Maryland. I am an advocate for Frontotemporal Degeneration, a degenerative form of dementia, which my dad is suffering from. Along with my husband, Dan, I am a Cub Scout leader for my youngest son's Wolf Den.
