I am 27 years old and work as a Family and Consumer Science (home economics) teacher . My class is more than a 1950's teacher in cat's eye glasses showing her students how to make sauce. Reviving the program, and its original premises- that producing good, nutritious food is profoundly important, that it takes study and practice, and that it can and should be taught in class because it could help us in the fight against obesity and chronic disease today. Also, I've been trying to green up my life (new year's resolution). One of the biggies for me is to try to green up my knitting too.. One lesson I taught that my students and I enjoyed was to find old sweaters and unravel them for the yarn. Seems rather tedious...but getting several hundred yards of yarn for $3 is also quite nice! RECYCLE BEFORE you SEW! There is nothing more therapeutic than knitting and finding that lovely piece of fabric for your next project!
