I have been in education since the fall of 2002. My first three years in the field found me teaching EBD to high school students (a bit removed from my background in elementary education and middle school language arts...). Since 2005, I have been in the trenches teaching middle school students the joy of reading, writing, and analyzing text along with how to navigate the choppy waters of the middle school shark tank.
I try to be engaging and approachable, and I strive to make my lessons relevant to my students' lives. I aspire to emulate my favorite teacher, Mr. Bill Durbin. He ignited in me a love of reading and writing, and I hope to honor his work by passing that love on to my students.
The highest honor I have received is not a trophy or a medal--it's the admiration and respect I earn from my students and their parents. When I have that, I know I have connected with them and that enables me to do my job.
BA in elementary education and English - University of Minnesota, Morris MA in differentiated instruction - Concordia University, St. Paul
When I am not working on lessons or grading papers, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two busy, bright children. Life is full, but it is oh, so good.
