I have taught in K, 1, 2, and 4! However, my favorite grade is 4th grade! I have taught here for 4 years and love the independence and the craving for problem-solving at this age. I gained my Bachelors from Elon University in Elementary (K-6) and recently finished my Masters at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Literacy (K-12) with a Reading Specialists degree. I can't wait to see where my experience takes me!!
I believe that students learn best through small groups and the use of numerous mediums (technology, manipulatives, themed unit-studies) and I am continually aiming to make my classroom a place that fosters such learning.
I was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow while in college and received numerous scholarships from the education department while in school.
I loved school, for the most part! I was always an A/B student, but had to work hard for each and every grade that I received. Creativity was my forte, though, so whenever a project or presentation was an option, I excitedly excelled! Writing was probably the most difficult part of my personal education career, but through gifted and caring teachers, I learned (ever-so-slowly) how to outline and then find a focus for my writing and take pride in each piece that I wrote; now writing is one of my favorite subjects to teach. Now having learned about curriculum and best practices of education, I understand how important it is to make lessons engaging and applicable to life and hope to bring it to life for each of my students!
