I have been a kindergarten and first grade classroom teacher for five years and a Literacy Coach for one. While I have always taught balanced literacy, I used The Daily 5 before becoming a Literacy Collaborative trained teacher and coach. My literacy expertise includes teaching Interactive Read Aloud, Community Writing, Shared Reading, Word Study, and Guided Reading Instruction. I have given extensive Professional Development in Literacy and Frontloading. I love helping teachers to create classroom routines in the beginning of the school year and believe in Frontloading in the first six weeks of school so that all students can be independent in the classroom.
I believe that my students learn best when I make instruction personally, socially and academically relevant. My instruction focuses on real-world problems and situations that help my students become productive citizens that better themselves and the world around them.
