TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 23 years teaching experience in private, public, continuation, and adult schools. For the last 18 years I have worked as a middle school teacher in East Los Angeles. The majority of my students have been bilingual and 2nd language learners, but a significant number have also been those who are 3-4 grade levels below in reading and writing. To help my students I developed a very strong vocabulary and phonics based spelling program to strengthen their foundation in academic language skills.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I incorporate a lot of visuals into every lesson. I love history, and it shows in my ancient history lessons. I have taken the time to research and go beyond the lessons presented in the textbooks. Each of my ancient history units incorporates illustrations, explanations, academic vocabulary, test questions, and frequent opportunities for discussions and writing. I believe in giving students both a broad and a strong foundation in every subject so that they are well equipped to analyze, interpret, synthesize and critique the topic.
