Before becoming an educator, I worked in direct marketing for about 10 years. August 2005 was when I officially became a middle school teacher in a school for students with language based learning differences. It was truly one of the best moments of my life. Teaching is my calling without a doubt. As it does, life took a turn. In January 2009, chronic pain entered my life and has yet to leave. My last day of teaching in a classroom was October 21, 2014. That does not mean I am not a teacher. I just need to find new means of teaching! I sincerely hope the material in my store helps educators, parents and most important, students.
I wholeheartedly believe in direct instruction, multisensory lessons. It gives the teacher an opportunity to teach according to the learners' needs and provides routine & structure (two of my favorite words). I also believe that language plays a huge role in math and should be included in every lesson. Another way to make a lesson more meaningful is to incorporate Singapore math strategies and bar modeling for problem solving. Quite honestly, none of this is really possible if you are not having fun! Mathland should always be a safe and happy place! :)
