By Ms Cottons Corner I have been teaching since 1995. I began my career in a bilingual school teaching in Spanish. I have also worked in inner city schools and schools with high levels of poverty and significant ELL populations. I was also a GATE teacher for a few years. I then worked as a Teacher coach for a few years. As a teacher mentor I have delivered professional development sessions for teachers in Gifted and Talented, reading, writing, ELL techniques, technology and social studies. I mentored teachers through the National Board process as well. This year I am heading back to the classroom to teach 5th grade, and I couldn't be more excited! Returning to the classroom has fired up my creative side, and I'm producing new TPT resources every week!
I try to bring in inquiry to all subjects. My goal is always to build capacity and independence in my students. I utilize reading and writing workshop, lots of small group and individual instruction, and a constructivist approach in math, science and social studies.
National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist in 2004 and in 2014
Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (magna cum laude) BA in Spanish Education BA in Elementary Education (magna cum laude) studied Spanish in several countries including Guatemala, Mexico and Spain
