TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I spent 20 years in informal STEM education as a teacher, curriculum developer, program manager and outreach director at science centers and other non-profit education organizations. When I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, I discovered a passion for technology education and making it accessible to every student. I now work at several schools as a Technology Coordinator helping teachers integrate technology into their practice and teaching students grades K-8 coding and robotics.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe the greatest barrier to access and success in any field, especially technology, is the ability to even imagine oneself in that field. Because of this, I focus on underserved audiences in tech and on the introduction of new tech experiences through project based learning. I place an emphasis on following a student's current interests and identity to expand that identity to include at lease some elements of tech.

For example, I may have a student who is interested in art, start with a project that is tangentially related to technology then use that interest to introduce new technology related to art until they can see themselves comfortably and competently participating in tech.

My goal is not to turn every student into a "tech person" or a "STEM person." My goal is that every student has enough information and experiences in STEM, particularly tech, that they are technically literate and are making their own informed choice on who they want to be.
