Currently I am teaching high-school students with disabilities ranging from moderate to severe. I teach work study courses in which students get real-world job experience, build relevant skills and learn how to obtain and maintain employment. Previously, I taught in a special education resource room for mild-to-moderate learning disabilities. I taught math, reading and language arts classes to students in grades 1-5. Since my students are all on different levels and need different supports, I design a number of my own lessons.
Because my students all learn in different ways, I will often find multiple approaches to teaching the same concept. My main focus in designing lessons is to be sure that, even if it is the third time practicing a concept, the lesson is still engaging.I also look for the best balance between giving the students freedom to be independent, while supporting them where they may need it.
I recently received funding for a grant to provide two iPads to my classroom! I was also honored with an invitation to attend the 2016 Model Schools Conference in Orlando, Florida.
