I'm currently in my second year teaching grade 5 at an international school in Berlin, Germany. Before that I taught grades 4, 5 and 6 (all subjects!) at a public school in Baltimore Maryland for five years. And before that I taught middle school language arts in Baltimore for three years. While I've taught a range of different grades, my favorite part of being in the classroom is see a student take ownership over her learning!
My educational philosophy is definitely more progressive; I've taught at a Montessori school, a IB PYP school and an inquiry based school. My classroom efforts encourage students to inquire into their learning and to take agency over their education. Every lesson revolves around an essential question that gets students taking about their learning!
A few years ago I learned that a student I taught in my first year wrote a book - and included a tribute to me in the acknowledgements! I was honored as a teaching fellow for a seminar by the National Endowment for Humanities. While my official teaching career kicked off in 2009, it unofficially began on a Fulbright teaching grant in 2007.
In 2011, I graduated summa cum laude from Johns Hopkins University with a Masters of Arts in Teaching (primary school). In 2007 I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with a double major in English and German.
