TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am certified as a secondary 7-12 science educator, with a 5-6 extension and an MSEd Reading/Literacy Specialist qualification, with 13 years experience teaching secondary science in middle and high school as well as reading/literacy to younger students. . I have an elementary school student of my own and, as a result, have developed this level of reading materials. I am currently a middle school science teacher and have reorganized my curriculum to integrate earth, life and physical science topics around two central themes: creating a school garden and investigating our local stream. Many of the plans and activities shared here are outdoor-based science lessons that cultivate both the appreciation and understanding of patterns in our environment while hitting NGSS and New York State standards. After attending workshops led by Angela Stockman, a western New York writing studio designer, I also am a firm believer in providing students with creative building opportunities to develop their ideas before they engage in writing for understanding. I hope you find that my materials are both creative and content-rich.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Constructivist, outdoor-based, open-ended, creative, content-rich.
