Over 10 years as a public school teacher. I've had the opportunity to work in several different districts within Louisiana. I've taught grades several different grade levels including ESL. My experiences have allowed me to serve as a Certified Reading Interventionist, Literacy Coach and Professional Learning Community Coordinator.
My teaching style is very eclectic. I want my classroom to be very engaging. I use techniques like Kagan and Power Teaching. My student data (qualitative and quantitative) drives my instruction. There are things/skills the students need to know and be able to do and there are also things/skills that are not on the "test" that should be taught as well. My students have a clean slate when they walk through my classroom door. I let them know their past doesn't have to dictate their future. The students know hard work, taking care of ourselves and our fellow classmates will help us succeed in and beyond the classroom.
I feel honored everyday I am able to teach. As far as material things: I've been lucky to have several grants awarded for iPads and Nooks. I was also chosen to speak to the local Rotary Club about the significance of a digital classroom and as a result, the club awarded my school with several more iPads. I've presented at Superintendent Conferences where I discussed the importance of Understanding by Design (Backwards Design). I have also had the pleasure of speaking during Regional Educational Conferences regarding the importance of Data Driven Decision Making and personal results using this method.
I am a proud graduate of LSU (BS Elementary Ed. grades 1st-8th) I also have my Masters in Educational Leadership. I recently earned my doctorate with a specialization in Assessment and Technology.
I am a very reflective teacher and person. Being a teacher is tough, but very rewarding. I have found great items on TPT and I am hoping that you will like my items as well. Please feel free to contact if you see something you like, want something else like that, or if you don't see something, but would like to know if I have the item, just let me know.
