Hello! My name is Megan Toy, and I am freelance artist currently in college striving to receive my teaching credentials. My goal is to be able to start a career as an elementary teacher sometime in the near future. I have been volunteering consistently in a second-grade classroom for a year, and thoroughly enjoy seeing the children grow and progress.
I believe there should be balance and stability when teaching young minds: balance with authority and kindness, equal work/play time, etc. I like to have an open mind in order to understand all the varying personalities and different ways each child learns. This, in turn, helps me help them to the best of my ability.
Attended Children's Christian Preschool in Escalon at age 4. Attended Dent Elementary in Escalon ('96-'02). Attended El Portal Middle School ('02-'05) Attended Escalon High School ('05-'07) Graduated from Oakdale High School (2009) (Currently attending) Modesto Junior College
I spent two years writing, editing, and illustrating a children's' book, "The Country Kids: Almond Orchard Adventure," which was recently published by Nighthorses Publishing out of Tucson, Arizona. The book is aimed at a younger audience (second grade) and teaches all about the different plants and animals that you might come across in an almond orchard. My approach was to combine colorful pictures with a bit of humor so the reader learns by looking at the pictures and getting involved. A fun approach to learning.
