I have been a math coach for over 10 years and have taught mathematics for over 15 years. My middle school experience includes intervention programs and 6th grade Math to Algebra I and everything in between. In addition I have taught numerous math courses (content, assessment and pedagogy,) at Arizona State University West for the teacher preparation, I have developed curriculum and assessment items for my district as well as Arizona State University, Silicon Valley education foundation (Step Up To Algebra) Nation Geographic Alliance and the Vanderbilt Teacher Collaborative.
I believe in building strong foundations so students are able to learn and understand standard algorithms and structures using them at the appropriate time and for the appropriate type of problem accurately. I never do something a student can do for themselves and believe for most occasions the best teacher response is a quality question that re-directs a student to what they know and how they can use it.
