I created this worksheet while I was teaching Old MacDonald to a group of first year recorder students. They had the notes down but in the 'here a moo there a moo' etc section they just were not getting the quavers. I had tried a few other ways of

I use these name badges for the first day of Music and keep them in a box to hand out for the first few lessons until both myself and the kids know everybody's name. Print out onto card, cut out and punch holes in the tops and add a safety pin

I use these practice charts with my students who are learning to play the recorder or flute, aged between 5 and 12. I am sure they would work well with any instrument. The charts come in a variety of colour schemes to suit many age levels. I

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught music to kids aged 5-10 for 8 years, Kids normally enter the program at 5 or 6 in Junior musicianship and graduate to recorder after 1-2 years. I have also tutored Maths and English for students aged 5-14 for about 6 months now with the aim of bringing struggling kids up to age level and extending and challenging those kids who achieve easily. I find the work to be very rewarding and is what has inspired me to become a primary teacher, rather than secondary.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My lessons are very child led, I very rarely plan my lessons down to the last detail. I have a general idea of what I want to achieve and sort of let the kids decide how that gets done e.g. if they can't sit still we will play a game v.s. doing written work (most of the time)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have trinity college awards in music and am currently studying towards a formal teaching qualification to get me into the classroom full time.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Most family has been involved in education in some way for as long as I can remember. One of my Grandmothers is a piano teacher, the other is a pre-school teacher, as is my Mother, my Grandfather is a mathematics lecturer at a University and my Father is has a degree in education (even though he doesn't use it much anymore). This, and the fact that I have had some amazing and inspiring teachers throughout my own schooling, has instilled a love for learning and a passion for passing that on to my own students.
