I have taught music to kids aged 5-10 for 8 years, Kids normally enter the program at 5 or 6 in Junior musicianship and graduate to recorder after 1-2 years. I have also tutored Maths and English for students aged 5-14 for about 6 months now with the aim of bringing struggling kids up to age level and extending and challenging those kids who achieve easily. I find the work to be very rewarding and is what has inspired me to become a primary teacher, rather than secondary.
My lessons are very child led, I very rarely plan my lessons down to the last detail. I have a general idea of what I want to achieve and sort of let the kids decide how that gets done e.g. if they can't sit still we will play a game v.s. doing written work (most of the time)
Musician of the year 2010
I have trinity college awards in music and am currently studying towards a formal teaching qualification to get me into the classroom full time.
Most family has been involved in education in some way for as long as I can remember. One of my Grandmothers is a piano teacher, the other is a pre-school teacher, as is my Mother, my Grandfather is a mathematics lecturer at a University and my Father is has a degree in education (even though he doesn't use it much anymore). This, and the fact that I have had some amazing and inspiring teachers throughout my own schooling, has instilled a love for learning and a passion for passing that on to my own students.
