I've been a music educator for over 20 years. I have taught all grades, but my specialty is early childhood and lower elementary. In addition to teaching general music classes, I also teach voice classes for young singers.
I believe that music should be a fun, successful experience for all children. When I see my students enjoying making music, I know I have accomplished my main goal! I enjoy implementing many different approaches into my teaching -- I think the more varied our teaching the better our chances of reaching every student.
I receive the highest of accolades every time I walk into a classroom and my students are excited about making music. It may sound cheesy, but it's absolutely true, and it's why I do what I do.
I have a BME in voice and piano, as well as training in Orff-Schulwerk, Dalcroze, and Gordon's Music Learning Theory. In addition to voice and piano, I also play flute, recorder, and most recently the pipe organ. I was inspired by my dad who was a K-3 music educator for 39 years.
I began playing the piano at age 3 and have been singing as long as I can remember. I am very lucky to be part of a wonderful family of musicians (even though most of them were smart enough to go into higher paying fields!). I also have two awesome test subjects (aka children) at home who are very good sports about trying out my creations!
