I began teaching in 1998. I have taught in California, North Dakota, New Jersey, and Michigan. I have experience teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grades (sometimes as multi-age classes); Gifted and Talented K-2; ESL K-8, and ESL Adults. I have worked in private schools, public schools, and charter schools. I've worked in poverty-stricken urban areas, affluent suburban areas, and rural farming communities. No matter where I teach or what I teach, kids are kids. They need to be engaged in effective learning activities in a caring, safe environment. Many of my resources are applicable in many different settings and grade levels because I have used them in many different settings and grade levels.
Students in my class get to be in charge of their learning. They get to practice skills and check their own work to get immediate feedback. They might play a game or draw a picture to help deepen their understanding or monitor their own abilities. They get to keep track of their progress and watch their scores climb throughout the year. My hope is that they will learn to love learning before they leave my classroom and carry that love throughout their lives.
