This is my sixth year teaching. Over the years, I've adapted to different teaching assignments - beginning in Grade 5/6 and moving to Grade 2. I (with mixed emotions) left my beautiful Grade 2 class to return to school with my husband. I completed a full-time Master's program on the other side of the country and wrote my thesis on the relationships that non-Indigenous educators build with Indigenous students. Grateful to be back on the West coast, this is my third year in Grade 6/7.
Who decided that learning is organized into rows, written on paper, or finished on June 30th? I believe in collaboration, discovery, and reflection; no-desk required. I believe that children burst though our classroom doors with excitement to share their wonderful worldviews. When children can share their own experiences and can accept those of others, they have begun their journeys as life-long learners.
