TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching the extended foreign language for over 26 years in the Miami Dade County Public school systems for the K-12th grades. Teaching and curriculum Spanish/French have been my expertise for the total emersion program (spanish as a second language). In addition to this I have served as a mentor to the department and students throughout the district.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use the "Total Emersion" program (half day Spanish/ half day English) while using ESOL and audiovisual strategies. In Spanish, Math and Social Studies. My personal experiences, are that translations on a day to day basis to students of another language hinder a student from learning that other language and they then do not want to discover new languages. It is important to try to not translate to that student during the EFL hour. Games, repetition, understanding, descriptions, songs, rhymes, illustrations for vocabulary, drills, etc. help them master the language.
