I taught Special Education for 8 years at the elementary level. Six of those years were spent teaching PPCD(Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) and 2 years spent teaching 1st-6th graders with developmental disabilities.I also taught classes for students with Autism during the summer months. I have experience with all realms of disabilities from low to high functioning. I also have experience with co-teaching and inclusion with both Pre-k and kindergarten teachers, helping to develop the program on my elementary campus. I have experience in creating behavior management plans at all age levels. Many of the teachers at my campuses would come to me when they had behavior management needs for their students. A behavior system I developed in my classroom was adapted by my former school district's handbook for their special ed classroom district wide.
I have a highly structured, but extremely active and fun classroom. I teach a great deal using music and visuals to enhance the learning experience. I believe in the power of music and hands on learning to help student achieve their full potential. I also believe in visual behavior management charts both on a group class level and on an individual student level.
Nominated for teacher of the year at the campus level. A behavior system I developed in my classroom was adapted by my former school district's handbook for their special ed classroom district wide.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my BSE in Special Eduction from Texas Christian University in 2002.
I have 3 sons and, while I now stay home, I am constantly volunteering and using my materials both with them at home and at their various schools when the need arises. I can now devote my time to improving my materials and preparing to re-enter the classroom setting when my boys are older.
