First Grade Teacher at Pate Early Childhood Center in Aurora, Missouri.
I love teaching character education to my little ones, along with cooperative learning structures, and everyday life skills. I really enjoy teaching first grade because of the amount of growth potential. I can't say that I have a "teaching style", but I can say that I love trying new things, and the fact that everyday is a challenge is the exact reason why I love being a teacher! :)
I decided to go back to school at 34 to get a degree in Elementary Education after I enjoyed volunteering in my son's school. I'm a 1st year teacher at 38!!!! Although I don't have any awards to date, (I've been teaching 74 days at the time of this writing) I consider one small award I received from my principal during my first month of teaching an honor. I was awarded our traveling monthly trophy for "Child Advocacy" during the month of September. While I was surprised to get the honor, I felt it was really part of my job to do those things that I had apparently displayed in order to get the award. I've faced many challenges as a new teacher, but I'm thankful for what I've learned from each of them.
I received my Undergraduate Degree in Elementary Education with an eMINTS emphasis from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. I plan to start my Master's Degree with Lindenwood University in January of 2013.
I am a wife to my high school sweetheart and a mother to two fabulous children. We live in Southwest Missouri where I began my teaching career late in life. Our kids keep us busy with baseball and cheerleading, but we love our hectic lifestyle. Teaching has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I get excited when I think about getting to spend the day with my first graders.
