I have 30+ years of experience in the private and public sectors of education. Primary and Intermediate are the grade levels I taught in the Gen Ed classroom as well as PreK through Fifth as a Content Mastery teacher in Resource. Currently, I am retired from classroom activity. However, the "chalk-dust" in my veins has me blogging about Literacy on my website: bizzylizzybiz.com. Teaching is not my job or career-path ~ it's my vocation!
I love teaching thematically in a center-based learning environment that includes lots of hands-on activities. Games, projects and presentations by students are my power tools. Interactive small groups, student-led instruction and one-on-one student/teacher reflections are my preferred avenues of classroom "management". Although I am an organization "fanatic", I, also, appreciate, encourage and participate in creative messes. Teaching others to read is my passion and I seldom take no for an answer!
One year, working as a Reading Specialist on an At-Risk campus with a stellar team of Second Grade teachers, we were able to get ALL 80+ students reading ON~LEVEL!!!! On another campus populated with immigrants from around the world, a First Grade teacher and I (Third at the time) successfully piloted a bi-lingual program to help ESL students exit into a regular classroom. As a SpEd, I was able to exit a healthy % of my students OUT of Resource!!! And I was elected campus VIP one year by my peers...
Bachelor of Science in Elementary & Special Education K~8 from The University of Texas Austin ~ last century....
Let's see......Having been on the planet for MORE than a few decades, I have worked professionally as: a cooking instructor for young and old, a floral designer, crafter (had a shop on Etsy), jewelry artisan, sous chef and caterer. I have, also, self-published a family, no-heat cookbook: 1000 STRAWBERRIES (still in print). And, of course, my newest passion: a Literacy blog on my website: bizzylizzybiz.com. Come visit!
