I have been a high school math teacher since 1999. It has been my privilege to teach a very diverse group of students throughout my career. I have taught Algebra 1, Technical Mathematics 2, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and AP Statistics.
My teaching style has changed dramatically throughout the years. In the beginning of my career, I lectured during the majority of the class period. As I gained more experience, I have turned into a facilitator in my classroom. This means that the students work together to figure out a concept, and I circulate around the classroom to answer any questions and keep my students on task. As a facilitator, I have been able to get a better rapport with my students and catch the students that are behind faster than I could when I was just lecturing. My experience with scaffolding concepts has definitely helped my students discover new concepts
